Orland resident, Eugene “Gene” H. Reese, 70, passed away on Nov. 1, 2011, with his family by his side at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, CA. At his request, no services will be held. Gene was born on November 13, 1940 in Red Bluff, CA to Park and Uvelle Reese. He could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He made sure to share his secrets and morals with each individual who was a part of his life. Gene served in the United States Army. He spent time in New York as well as Germany. In 1962 he moved to Ord Bend with his wife, Katy. Gene worked many years for Glenn County Road Department. He started out as an operator of the Ord Bend Ferry and continued on to work for the County Road Department. He retired in 2003, after forty years of hard work. Gene spent most of his life residing in Glenn County. He was a loyal Orland resident. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family, especially his best friend and brother, Dale Reese. Gene was a man of few words, with the most famous being “Yep”. He was known to his grandchildren a “G-man” and spent a great amount of time with each and every one of them. He loved to go to yard sales, and just fiddle around the house. Gene will always be loved and greatly missed by all. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Ligas (Elias) of Orland, CA; son, Joseph Reese of Chico; brother, Dale Reese of Orland; grandchildren, Joseph Tyner (Jade) of Weitchpec, CA, KaLeigh, Elias and Kristin Ligas all of Orland, James and Joshua Reese of Portland, OR and Caden Cline of Fresno, CA; great grandchildren, Joseph C. and Reed M. Tyner of Weitchpec; niece, Susan Cleland and family of Corning, CA; nephew, Jeff Hinkle and family of Concord, CA and nephew, Mark Hinkle and family of San Jose, CA. Mr. Reese was preceded in death by his wife of twenty-six years, Katy F. Reese; grandson, Craig M. Tyner; sister, Betty Hinkle and his parents.
