Private services will be held for Opal Wynona Beasley Czarnek, 89, of Chico, CA, she passed away on April 8, 2012 at Twin Oaks Convalescent Home in Chico. Opal was born on February 12, 1923 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Cleo Jesse Beasley and Annie Perkins Beasley. Opal resided in Chandler, OK until 1942 when she moved to Southern California. While attending business school she met and married George Martin Czarnek. George, Opal and their two young daughters, Judy and Joy moved to Orland in 1946. George worked at Barceloux Bros as parts manager and Opal worked part time at Duche Nut Co, Penney’s and Johnson’s Shoe Store. In 1955 they welcomed their daughter, Janet. Having three daughters it was fortunate that Opal was and excellent seamstress; the girls got more compliments on the dresses that Opal made for them than on their store bought dresses. George, Opal, Judy, Joy and Janet spent their summers at different lakes in the area, water skiing. Opal was not comfortable in the water but was a good sport and wore two life belts when she skied. …Those were fun times! In the early 70’s, Opal, George and Janet moved to Reno, Nevada. They enjoyed having family and friends visit and go to headliner shows with them. Their next home was in Sacramento, near Arco Arena. While in Sacramento, Opal became an avid bingo player; she was quite lucky and had her share of wins. Opal stayed in Sacramento for two years after George’s death in 1999. She then decided to move to Chico to be nearer her family; she loved spending time with her family. Since being in Chico, Opal made a wonderful friend, Gloria Kimberling, she became like family. Gloria was a frequent visitor as well as Opal’s four sisters-in-law, Dottie, Dee, Darlene and Darenna. If you heard laughing more than likely her friend, Vonnie was visiting. Opal is survived by her daughters, Janet Czarnek of Chico; Judy (Dennis) Spooner of Willows, CA; grandchildren, Ty Spooner, Tracy Spooner, Heidi (Joe) Gilmore and Scott (Heather) Hands; great grandchildren, Kaci, Tristan and Elliot Spooner, Madelyn and Lacey Gilmore and Taylor and Emma Hands; her sister with whom she was very close, Ola "Babe" Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Opal was all smiles when her grandchildren brought her great grandchildren to viist. Opal was preceded in death by her daughter, Joy Hands in 1998, and by her brothers, Jesse Bassett and Olen Beasley.
