A memorial service for Larry Merlyn Wood, 75 of Chico, CA will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Grace Community Church, 2346 Floral Avenue in Chico. Larry passed away on June 4, 2015 at Pine View Care Center in Paradise, CA. Larry was born on April 19, 1940 in Sioux Falls, SD to Burton Elsworth Wood and Vera Marie Barnes Wood. Larry attended school in Pittsburgh, CA graduating from Pittsburgh High School. He then attended San Jose State University and graduated with a Masters in Cybernetics. Larry was on the Tennis team at San Jose State, memorized the book of Philippians and ran marathons. He was an AWANA leader for eighteen years, tutored elementary school children for twelve years and worked as a software engineer in the aerospace industry for thirty-three years. Larry married his beloved wife, Barbara Kreider Wood, in July of 1992. Larry was a member of the Northern California Parkinson’s Association, Sonora Astronomical Society, the McManus Elementary PTA and the AWANA Sword Club. This kind and generous man will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara of Chico; daughter, Lynette Vandergrift of Chico; son, David Kendall (Laura) Wood of Santa Cruz, CA; two step daughters, Lori K. King of Everett, WA and W. Elizabeth (Ken) Chapin of Kenmore, WA; two brothers, Ronald E. Wood of Tracy, CA and Robert D. (Doreen) Wood of Quincy, CA; sister, Janice M. (Gene) Stiles of Mt. Aukum, CA; granddaughters, Jessica (Shaunt) Kojabashian of Chico, Luann (Art) Pietz of Chico, and Jody (Kevin) Hills of El Segundo, CA; four step grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Curtis Wood in 2002. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Larry Wood Memorial fund; to grow Larry’s dream of student’s success at John A.
