Lloyd Edwin McDermont
January 14th, 1928 - May 6th, 2017
Lloyd Edwin McDermont, 89 of Chico, California passed away peacefully in his sleep May 6, 2017 following a lengthy battle with Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia. Lloyd’s three children and their families had the honor and privilege of being by his side during his final months at home. Many enjoyable hours were spent reminiscing about family, friends, and times in Indiana which he always considered home. Lloyd was born in Worthington to Francis and Louise McDermont January 14,1928. Dad met his “one and only” Dorothea Alice Kay at a young age and they were married November 22, 1947. Lloyd proudly served his country enlisting in the US Navy January 1946 and was stationed on Midway at the submarine base. He re-enlisted for the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1952 then moved his family to California. “Mac” had a long career in fire services and retired a Captain from the San Bernardino Fire Department. Lloyd and Dottie retired in Chico, California in 1990 and spent many wonderful years doing what they did best; spending time together and traveling back home to Indiana to be on the farm with family and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothea February 8, 2011 and his sister Jeanne Carol McDermont Bays May 27, 2013. Lloyd is survived by his children Deborah (Greg) Chamberlin, Michael (Debi), and Eva (Stan) Patterson of California as well as several grandchildren and great-grand children. Lloyd was a respected, hard-working man well-loved and admired by his family and friends. Lloyd was a very devout Christian and faithful servant of God. He had no fear of death and as time passed he looked forward to the day he would enter into the Kingdom of God to be joined with the love of his life “together in eternity”. At his request Lloyd’s remains will be brought home by family this September to rest with Dorothea and other family in the Worthington Cemetery. No formal service is planned however his son Mike and his wife Debi look forward to reacquainting with family and friends in the area.
