Carol Joan Glenn
April 27th, 1935 - February 25th, 2018
Carol Joan Glenn passed away on February 25, 2018 in Watsonville at the age of 82. Carol was born to Catherine Adelaide Humphreys and George Glenn in 1935 in Sacramento California. She was stricken with Valley Fever as a youngster and convalesced in Colfax for 6 months before recovering, from what was then a deadly disease. Her father George moved his family from Sacramento to La Selva Beach to manage the furniture department at Ford’s and Carol finished her schooling at Watsonville High, before attending Hartnell Junior College and San Jose State where she earned an elementary teaching credential. She taught for several years before stopping to raise a family. During her career, Carol also taught at Aurora School for Learning Disabilities, ACE Academy, worked as a dispatcher for Pete’s Trucking and at various times helped out both her sons in their businesses. Carol was president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha from 1971-1972. She was a talented seamstress and sewed clothing. She loved to bake and cook recipes handed down through the family, work on puzzles, read, exercise and clothes shop. She loved Tahoe where her family vacationed, walking on the beach with her family dogs, watching classic old movies and musicals, and hosting gatherings Carol’s boat handling skills matched those of Jim, her ex-navy husband and she enjoyed many camping and boating weekends with her young family. In her later years, she enjoyed many an evenings playing cards with her friends and never lost her sense of humor and sharp wit. Carol was a devout Christian and a member of the Arthur Road Baptist Church before joining Calvary Chapel Capitola. She loved singing in the choir, church potlucks and her many friends in the prayer group. Carol is survived by, Jamie & Lee (daughter and spouse), Mark & Debbie (son and spouse), Dale & Lynn (son and spouse), Zack, Casey and Silvia, her grandchildren, Coraline, her great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents Catherine and George, her brother Bruce and her sister Bobbi. A service will be held for Carol on Saturday March 31, 2018 at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz beginning at 1:00 pm. Her friends are welcome to bring a story or a memory to share. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, American Diabetes Association, 111 W. Saint John St, Suite 1150, San Jose 95111 or Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter, 7th Avenue, Santa Cruz, 95062.
