Ray Toshitsune

Born in Palo Alto to parents Kijiro and Teruko (Mary) Toshitsune. At the age of 65 he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma cancer. Ray spent most of his life in the bay area, where he attended San Jose State, graduating with degree in Microbiology in 1972. His career of over 27 years in Environmental Health spanned both Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. He retired from Santa Cruz County as Program Manager/Consumer Protection in 2004. An avid athlete and leader in many team sports including softball competition between various departments within County Staff. Ray enjoyed all outdoor activities such as marathon running (Napa Valley, Big Sur) mountain biking, snowboarding, tennis, and golf. Of his most prized accomplishments are the times spent with his sons hiking, camping, fishing, poker game night and as he proudly referred….being their dad. Other hobbies included his love of a good challenge when it came to fixing things and problem solving. After his retirement, he lovingly became known as " RayMan to the Rescue" when anyone of his many friends needed a helping hand. Ray always had the tool and the knowledge to get the job done. Preceded in death, sister Linda Valadez. Survived by two sons Mitchell and Ross Toshitsune, sister Diane & Yosh Toya, brother Ken Toshitsune, companion of 6 years Linda Amador, and former wife Wendy Toshitsune, and foster families of Sayo Togami and Phyllis Troyer. The family would like all that knew Ray to share in Celebration of Life Jan 31, 2015, 1:00 pm at Chaminade Resort, Santa Cruz.
