Gwendolyn Lee Eddy

A 1948 graduate of the University of California Dental School, she was a Dental Hygienist before raising a family. She and Jack met while attending college in Berkeley and San Francisco, and were married in what is now the Julia Morgan Theatre in Berkeley. A devoted Cal football fan, she attended games for 65 years, including multiple Golden Bear Rose Bowl appearances and the 1982 Big Game with Stanford, occasion of "The Play". An early builder of the San Lorenzo Valley Little League, she was honored for her numerous years as its scorekeeper/announcer by having the score booth named after her. She was an avid reader who was actively involved with Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, and worked as a volunteer in their store and at their events for many years. Gwen's other interests included the San Francisco Giants; the Santa Cruz Symphony; opera and theater; travel (especially with her Cal football friends, as Bears in the Air); card and trivia games; flowers and gardens; her cats; and British history and royalty. She also loved attending the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, going to the movies, and trying new desserts. She will be remembered for her loving nature, her friendly smile, her generosity, and her compassion for others. We hold her in our hearts every moment of every day. Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday, Apr. 28 at Pacific Gardens Chapel 1050 Cayuga St. Santa Cruz, CA 95062. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Santa Cruz Public Libraries, California Alumni Association, and Valley Churches United.
