Ann Florence Bucher

38 Year Resident of Capitola, California August 24, 1924 – January 5, 2016. On the afternoon of January 5, 2016 Ann passed away peacefully at home of natural causes. She was surrounded by family and love in her iconic pink beach house and beautiful garden on the shore of Capitola beach. She was 91. Ann was born on August 24, 1924 in Santa Clara, California. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary Juresa and was the spunky daughter of four girls. She married in 1945 to William Bucher, and had five children. They often spent their summers in Capitola, and in 1967, Bill surprised Ann with her Venetian beach house for Mother's Day. In 1977, Ann and Bill moved to their Capitola dream home permanently. It didn't take long for Ann to paint her house bright pink, to create an incredible garden from pavement, and to make her home a legendary place that has been the hub of the Bucher family for almost 50 years. She loved basking on the beach with her friends, her garden, walks through town, endless shopping trips, and was known for inviting anyone walking by into her house and befriending them into her life. She loved fashion and was always the very best dressed and modeled even into her late 80's. Ann was magnetic and fun, and always on the go with endless energy. Her house was always where everyone wanted to be, and Capitola Village will not be the same without her. Heaven will surely be more beautiful with her arrival and her gardening skills. She was the deeply loved matriarch of the family, and we will miss her beyond words. Ann is survived by her children; Steve of Oregon; Jim of Capitola, CA; John and wife Debbie of Watsonville, CA; and Janie Sharp and husband Randy of Truckee, CA. Ann is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Tolin and Helen Isaacson of San Jose, CA. Ann leaves her beloved 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1997, followed by her son Bob in 2009. A memorial service will be held on January 15, 2016, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 435 Monterey Ave, Capitola, 95010. The family sends their heartfelt thanks to Ann's caregivers and friends, Bong Bihag and Marie Main. Ann was blessed to have the friendship and the loving care of these two angels for the last five years of her life.
