Theodore "Ted" Day

April 5, 1932 – July 23, 2016 Resident of Capitola A funeral mass will be celebrated on August 4th in Capitola for Ted Day who passed away peacefully at his Capitola home at the age of 84. Born in Denver, Colorado, he married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanne Bucher, in 1955. He earned his bachelor's degree in Mathematics with coursework in Chemistry from Regis College, and the couple moved to California in 1963; making Santa Cruz County their home in 1972. They were long-time parishioners of St. Joseph's Church in Capitola. Mr. Day had a career of more than 10 years as an aerospace engineer employed with Martin Marietta, and UTC Aerospace Systems. He was proud of the high profile rocket designs of the day that he was involved with including the Titan III C Missile. His second career began in Aptos where he was a successful self-employed real estate agent and investor for more than 20 years. Mr. Day enjoyed his retirement as an expert wood craftsman, mechanic and fix-it man for just about anything (particularly older automobiles), and as an avid reader and collector of classic books. In his younger days, he loved to scuba dive and hunt. His family will continue to cherish many fond memories of camping adventures, fishing, and just being near the ocean. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jeanne Day of Capitola, and their four children: his son, Ted E. Day of Morgan Hill, his daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Mike Shay of San Jose, and Kathleen and Norm Dorais of San Carlos, and his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Oanh Day of San Jose. He leaves his two sisters; Patricia Wagner of Colorado; Agnes Hessin of Alabama; his beloved grandchildren: Mario, Teddy, Nicole, Kevin, Keith, Jake, Joseph, and Michelle, and his two great grandchildren: T.J. and Ellie. The mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (435 Monterey Ave.) in Capitola on Thursday, August 4, 2016, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Any kind acts of charity can be made in his memory to St. Joseph's chapter of the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) or the Knights of Columbus. ________________________________________________________________________________________________
