James "Jim" Holmes
September 29th, 1951 - September 19th, 2020
James Arthur “Jim” Holmes, age 68, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020. He was a graduate of Highlands High School in 1969 and served as a medic in the Air Force from 1970 to 1976. Following the Air Force, Jim started his career selling restaurant equipment. He later worked at Big Valley Mortgage as a loan consultant for 16 years until retiring in 2012. Preceded in death by parents, Lyle and Evelyn Holmes; former wife, Angelita “Angie” Holmes; and brothers, Kenneth “Butch” Holmes and Richard “Dick” Holmes. He is survived by wife, Lilian V. Holmes; daughter, Brenda MacIver and her husband, Andy MacIver; daughter, Tammy Bossman and her husband, Rick Bossman; son, Cody Holmes and his wife, Kaylan Holmes; grandchildren, Katey Bossman, Thomas McDonald, and Courtney Bossman; siblings, Patricia “Pat” Lux, Kathy Stansfield, Thomas “Tom” Holmes, and Debora “Debbie” Holmes; and many nieces and nephews. Jim attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church and was an active member of his parish. He volunteered with the Sacramento Food Bank annually for the Run to Feed the Hungry and regularly donated and supported St. Vincent DePaul of Sacramento. Jim had many interests, one of which was a love of Blues music. He started the Sacramento Blues Enthusiasts meet up group. He was a member of several other meet up groups and hosted countless events and parties, such as New Year’s Eve parties and Blues on the Patio events. He loved to dance and was well versed in many different styles of dancing. He was the master of the two-step. Jim also loved camping in his motor home with his wife, Lil, and occasionally his dog, Sandy. He loved to travel and was always planning his next trip. He traveled to Europe several times. A 2019 European trip included two cruises and visits to England, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Vienna, Greece, and his personal favorite, Spain. Jim had a large and loving family, and an even wider circle of dear friends. He will be missed by everyone who got to know his kindness and charisma.
