Harry David Free

David was born in Marysville, Kansas and moved with his parents to Roseville, California during the Great Depression. Upon graduating from Roseville High School in 1944, he entered the Marine Corps as an Infantry Man and served with the 4th Division in the South Pacific, surviving heavy combat on Iwo Jima. David was extremely proud of his service and enjoyed wearing a 4th Division Marine Corps hat. He was a member of the Roseville Masonic Lodge #222, although inactive in his later years. David lived a rich and varied life, enjoying employment at McClellan Air Force Base as a civil servant, AeroJet General as a Hydroelectric Expediter and Bechtel as a General Expediter. He was able to visit 5 continents, lived on 3 and traveled extensively during his employment at Bechtel. David lived in Roseville his last 26 years. He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Eileen Free of Citrus Heights CA and Leslie Lee Free of Reno NV, one grandson, George David Free Lara, and one great granddaughter, Abigail Penelope Danger Lara, both of Phoenix AZ. David chose to face death with the assistance of hospice on August 14 and passed away a short 10 days later; he was strong and brave until the very end.
