Ronald K. McPherson
September 23rd, 1948 - November 27th, 2020
Ronald McPherson September 23, 1948- November 27, 2020 Penryn California-Ronald Kent McPherson, or Ron as he was known to friends and family was born in Berkeley on September 23, 1948 to his late parents Ray and June McPherson. Ron passed away following complications from a stroke on November 27, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Lora, his brothers Tom (and Tom’s wife Carol) and Scott, his children Shalynn and Sean, son-in-law Dale and two adoring grandkids Harper and Brynn who called him Pappy. Ron was raised in San Lorenzo, California and graduated from San Lorenzo High (class of 1966). During his high school years, Ron discovered his great and unwavering passion for the sport of tennis. Following an accomplished high school career, he went on to play tennis at George Washington University. In 2019, at the age of 71, Ron and his doubles partner were chosen to represent the Gold River Racquet Club in the international tennis championships for ages 55+. Up until Ron’s passing, he and his cherished tennis group could be found on the court nearly every single day, and if he wasn’t playing tennis one morning it was only because he scheduled golf for that day. In addition to tennis, Ron was extremely passionate about watching baseball and basketball. His two favorite team being the San Francisco Giants and Sacramento Kings. He had an uncanny knack for memorizing player stats including some of his favorites, Willie McCovey and Mickey Mantle. He would recall scores/highlights from professional games that he attended in his youth and unique records that players held. He used these skills to earn the title of “guru” in the Fantasy Sports leagues he enjoyed playing in. Ron graduated from UC Berkeley in 1971 where he earned a B.S. in Business with a minor in accounting. He married the love of his life Lora in 1972 and moved up to Penryn in 1979 to raise his family. Ron spent many years working as the CFO for the Med Clinic of Sacramento before venturing out to start his own financial planning company. Some of Ron’s most cherished family time was spent in Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and at home with the whole family celebrating holidays or family events. Aside from his infamous backhand tennis stroke, Ron will be most remembered for his kind spirit, immense enthusiasm for life, joyous laugh, positive energy, and immeasurable love for his family and friends. Due to current county restrictions, there are no services scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity.
