James Albert Kraus
May 23rd, 1937 - September 12th, 2021
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James Kraus. He was a great man who appreciated knowledge and embraced the responsibility to share his profound gifts with those fortunate to be in his life. He lived an honest, honorable life and taught his five daughters how to make the right decisions to be successful in life, to be self-sufficient and have a strong work ethic. Up until the day he died, he lived a very active and full life and shared many great traveling adventures with his wife of 37 years, Nancy. He was a skilled woodworker, gardener, musician, golfer, and enjoyed playing chess and cards. He had a kind heart and took great pleasure in every aspect of life. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. Born in Pontiac Michigan May 23, 1937, he was the youngest of five children born to John and Florence Kraus. He was active as a child and played several sports and instruments. He also served as the president of his senior class. After high school he joined the US Air Force where he proudly served his country as pilot, navigator, and officer for seven years. While serving in the military he was stationed in many exciting and interesting places in the United States and abroad and developed a love and appreciation for travel and adventure. Upon leaving the military, he settled in the Sacramento region and tried several different career paths until he finally decided on a career in the new field of computer programming. To find suitable work in this newly emerging market, Jim relocated to Santa Cruz County. He took up sailing and joined Elkhorn Yacht club in Moss Landing where he met and married his wife Nancy. They created an amazing life together and traveled extensively both in the United States and abroad. After retiring, Jim and Nancy relocated to Sacramento to be closer to family. James is survived by his wife Nancy Lee Kraus, sister Carolyn Robinet; five daughters Sherry Stoltz (Duane), Angela Tucker, Michelle Shiflet (Kurt), Shannon Hively (Butch), Carol Kraus (Jim); ten grandchildren Jason Moore, Natalie Tucker, Logan Taylor, Brian Tucker, Terra Stoltz, Crystal Burton, Lahre Shiflet, Shawn Shiflet, Cody Crowl, Joshua Curl, and eleven great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday November 7th at 2:00 pm at Old St. Mary’s Chapel, 5251 Front St, Rocklin, CA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
