Basil Anthony Molony

Basil Anthony Molony, M.D., age 89, passed away on September 9th, 2023 in Gold River, California. Basil was born in Thomastown in County Kilkenny, Ireland on June 14, 1934, to Joseph and Alice Molony. After earning a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, Basil emigrated to the United States where he met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Bartnick, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They married on May 9, 1959. Shortly after receiving his United States citizenship, Basil was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in the Vietnam War. Major Basil Molony was honorably discharged after his two-year service. Basil’s real passion was internal medicine. For most of Basil’s career, he worked as a research physician for pharmaceutical companies developing drugs for myocardial infarction, stroke, and diabetes. Basil and Barbara built their retirement home in Camino, California. They lived there until 2006, when they moved to Lincoln, California. Basil is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their six children: Brian (Amy Wright) Molony, David Molony, Anne Marie (Cliff) Smith, Michael (Joy) Molony, James (Dana) Molony, and Maureen O’Toole. Basil is also survived by eight grandchildren: Nicole, Brendan, Meghan, Shamus, Declan, Ryan, Kaitlin, and Lauren and by his brothers Joseph Molony and Vincent (Nuala) Molony. Basil was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John, Marcus, Raymond, and Philomena. A funeral Mass and interment ceremony will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery on October 21, 2023 at 11 a.m.
