LAURITA ALVIS Born in Hawaii in 1927, Laurita Alvis passed from this life on Monday, December 30. 2013 at a local Chico care home. Moving to Japan in her early twenties to work in civil service, Rita met her husband Al in Tokyo. The couple was married in 1952 and celebrated nearly fifty years of marriage before Al's death in 2002. Rita and Al were the loving parents of six children: Candy, Martin (Tamara), Charles (Christina), and Abigail, all residing In Chico; Cindy (Michael) residing in Montana; and Andrew (Amy) residing in Brentwood, California. They also have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. RIta worked at Riverside Convalescent Hospital for more than 42 years, serving as the Dietary Supervisor and other positions In the dietary department. She retired at the age of 80. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She served as a volunteer in the church office after her rtlrement. Rita enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who attended her children and grandchildren's baseball games and concerts. She always had a listening ear and time for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial services will be held at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church on Saturday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. The family wishes to thank the staff at Windsor Chico Care Center for their loving and devoted care for Rita for the last four years of her life.
