Thorne Roy Binnings
December 31st, 1945 - May 16th, 2023
Thorne died peacefully at home with Hospice of Santa Cruz Care and remarkable neighbor’s care. Thorne had sadly suffered from Frontal Lobe Dementia for more than 10 years. He died May 16, 2023. Thorne was 77 years old. Thorne met and married his wife Karen on May 30, 1970. They moved to Santa Cruz from Los Angeles on January 1, 1971. Thorne completed his Doctorate in Psychology in 1986. He never practiced. Thorne started his automotive repair business instead. Thorne was known as The Honest Car Mechanic. He greatly cherished the warm and personal relationships he developed with those individuals. Besides car work the joy in Thorne’s life was his family. Spending time with them camping in the summer, sharing 49 football, Giants baseball and Warriors basketball. Christmas was a wonderful time with Thorne. His favorite music was Joan Baez and Sound of Music. Thorne’s favorite and only restaurant he would eat at was the original Restaurant Avanti. Many family celebrations and Sunday dinners were enjoyed there. Thorne was a very long- standing loyal customer of Kelly’s French Bakery. Thorne was Devotee of Paramahansa Yogananda as a long-time member of Self Realization Fellowship. Thorne you are missed and you are dementia free. Thorne is survived by his wife Karen Binnings, son Peter Binnings (Jenny Greenburg), daughter Theresa Louise Binnings, grandchildren Leo Binnings, Rose Binnings, Sister Theo Golden (Ernie), Jill Fields (Mike Toscornia), niece Kimber Green (Jordon), nephew Eric Fields (Elise), grandniece Antonia Fields, Reese Green, grandnephew Max Green, Rowan Field. Appreciation and utmost gratitude to many caring neighbors and friends; Vicki Nunez, Nancy Reilly Dwayne Free across the street, Jackson Collins and Francesca Caselli next door, Jeanne Doyle, Doug Patten and Rocky Patten next door, Monica and Adam Caltabiano, Jorge and Ella Harley around the corner Olive Street, Russ and Jeanne Harris, Russel and Sabrina Kregs, Mark and Kelly Sanchez, Dane and Kathy Hardin, Dana and Matt Wherity.
