Healey Mortuary
Katherine Topps
June 21st, 1949 - October 30th, 2016
Katherine (Kathy) Siason Topps, was a daughter, sister, cousin, wife, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, Nana, god-mother & friend. In being all these precious people in one, she was kind, beautiful, funny, giving, smart, caring, supportive, compassionate, forgiving & most definitely loving. Our mom, Kathy, was born June 21, 1949 in Salinas, CA to Thomas & Gavina Siason. She was the eldest of five siblings that included Robert Siason, Martha Brown, Mary Keller & Dolores Bonaparte. Until she graduated from Gonzales High School, her childhood & teenage years were lived in the Salinas Valley including Gonzales, Soledad, Castroville & Chualar. After high school, she moved north & attended San Jose Business College & during that time she met then married our dad, Samuel Luis Topps on his birthday December 21st in 1971. As a military wife, she resided in Fort Rucker, AL, Fort Belvoir, VA, Korea, Fort Ord, CA, Soledad & Prunedale. Kathy & Sam loved each other very much. They also loved listening to music & they so enjoyed dancing with each other. They had two wonderful children, (us) Kindra Topps Islas & Reggie Topps. While we were growing up mom was our biggest supporter in everything we did & she was definitely our #1 fan in all our sports activities. Her passion in being the #1 fan took her to Utah Utes football games during her fight with cancer that she won. The other two loves of her life were her grandchildren, Joseph (JT) Islas & Emma Aguilar. JT shared the love of sports with his Nana & before he began to play in any of his sports, coaches knew that games didn't start until Nana gave him his blessing. Emma is as beautiful as her Nana even while giving her Nana her mean looks. Kathy always said that girl never let her rest. =} Mom enjoyed spending times with friends, eating Chinese food, listening to music & drinking Bloody Mary's at gatherings. But what was most important to her was family. She loved being with family. And she loved & was so very proud of all her nieces & nephews. On Sunday, October 30, 2016, Kathy Topps went home peacefully with our Lord to join Sam, her sister Dolores & her Dad. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 1:30-5:30 at the Spreckels Veteran Memorial Building, 90 5th St, Spreckels, CA.

We Entrusted Katherine Topps's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
