William “Bud” Lawrence Lamb, 94, died January 17, 2012 at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center after a short illness. He was born November 17, 1917 in Davenport, Iowa to William Hugh and Coral Daisy Laduke Lamb. After World War I, his parents returned to Molalla, where he attended Maple Grove Grade and Molalla Union High Schools. On July 3, 1941 he married Betty Hope Jones in Vancouver, Washington. They lived on Dickey Prairie Road. He saw the first car come into Molalla; remembered Wilhoit Springs full of people and told about trips to Oregon City that took two days by wagon. He was drafted into the Army in 1944 but was able to go home before having to ship out to China. He worked for many of the old logging companies in the area and owned JML Lumber Company.He could climb to set spar trees; was a mechanic and driver for log trucks; and built, owned, and operated three sawmills. He was a mechanic for Weyerhaeuser, a millwright for Brazier’s and gunsmith in his spare time. He loved to fix things and could make parts from scratch. In the 1990s he learned spinning so he could build spinning Wheels. He and Betty were members of the Ox Barn Spinning Guild and Molalla Historical Society; he demonstrated spinning during many Apple Festivals. Survivors include his brother Kenneth Hugh Lamb of Hood River; daughter, Nora Louise DeFrates (Mrs. David) and son, Laurence Ray Lamb, both of Molalla; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64, Betty Hope; daughter Juddy Mae Cooley (Mrs. Jerry); grandson, Cory Lamb; sister, Billie Lucille Lamb Tomlinson (Mrs. Robert); and brothers, Anthony Wayne Mazingo, Henry Hugh “Hank” Mazingo, and Melvin “Slim” Mazingo. Private interment will be at Adams Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contribution may be made to the Molalla Historical Society, P.O. Box 828, Molalla, Oregon 97038 Arrangements entrusted to Molalla Funeral Chapel.
