Donald Fowler
April 16th, 1944 - April 27th, 2017
Donald F. Fowler Jr passed away, Saturday, April 27,2017 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital from complications of pulmonary fibrosis - a service related disability at the age of 73. Don passed away surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jim. Don was born in Olympia, Washington to Emily R and Donald Fowler Sr on April 16,1944. Growing up, the son of an Army Sergeant, Don lived in various places but always called the Monterey Bay his home. He attended Monterey High School and Monterey Peninsula College. Don joined the Navy in 1961. He served with the US Naval Air VA-56 out of Lemore NAS. He deployed on the USS Ticonderoga in the Gulf of Tonkin at the beginning of the Vietnam War. Don received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. After discharge, Don moved to So Cal where he met and married Penny Johnston. They raised their three children on the Monterey Peninsula where Don enjoyed coaching Pony baseball and Pop Warner football. In 1991, after 20 years, Don retired from Del Monte Glass and moved with Penny to Lake County, CA. There, they opened Lucerne Glass and Window. Don loved living on the shores of Clearlake where he enjoyed many days of bass fishing and spending time with family and great friends. He is survived by his one true love, Penny and their children: Lisa Castaneda(Daniel), Mike Fowler(Sandie) and Angel Fowler(Josh Woodcock) along with his grandchildren: Ryan, Mathew and Daniel Castaneda, Jessica, Austin and Trent Fowler and Cora and Eric Woodcock. He also leaves his sister Sally Ross(Kim). A Celebration of Life will be held, Saturday, June 10th 3:00 p.m at the home of Mike and Sandie Fowler. Interment at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery.

Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
