Gina Filippin

Gina Filippin passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the age of 97. She was born on Feb. 17, 1912 in Northern Italy and came to the United States at the age of 14 months. Her family settled in Northern California where she attended Weed Schools and Munson's Business College in San Francisco. Upon graduating, she returned to Weed and began working at the First National Bank for 10 years. She also began a private partnership as an Insurance Agent. In 1934 she married Luigi Filippin and in 1954 the Filippins moved to Chico, where Gina was employed as a Supervisor of Reception for the Butte County Welfare Dept. and as a Clerk for the Municipal Court. She retired at the age of 62. In 1982 after Luigi's death, Gina moved to Fremont, CA to be closer to her family. She was an officer in the Fremont Italian Catholic Federation, Branch #215 and a member of the Holy Family Guild at Saint Joseph Mission Catholic Church. In her later years she lived at the Carlton Plaza of Fremont until her health necessitated a move to the Fremont Health Care Center. She is survived by her daughters, Joy Schlichtemeier (Ron) from Cupertino, CA and Drinda Imhoff, Fremont, CA (Gary Imhoff, former son-in-law, Chico); grandchildren, Cindi Wilson (Chris), Steve Schlichtemeier and Nicole Imhoff and three great-grandsons, Ryan, Kyle and Austin Wilson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Giuseppe and Fedelina Zaniroli and her brothers, Emil and Pete Zaniroli. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 at Brusie Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Park on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. where she will be laid to rest at the Mausoleum of Prayer next to Luigi. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart or Diabetes Associations in Gina's name.
