Anthony Torres
January 1st, 2001
ANTHONY " TONY " TORRES Tony Torres passed away after a heroic fight with cancer on July 23rd, at his home in Chico, with his family by his side. He was 77. Tony was born February 7, 1933 to Natie and Encarnacion Torres in Hamilton City, CA. While growing up in Hamilton City, he worked for Mills Orchards. After graduating from Hamilton City High School, Tony went to work for McClellan Air Force Base as a sheet metal specialist, and then entered the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War. Tony was very proud of his service to his country. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he met the love of his life, Donna Barnard. It was love at first sight, and they have spent over fifty years of marriage together, and 48 of those years raising their only son, Ric. Tony was known as a kind, friendly, "gentle" man and was well liked by his peers. His lifetime of honesty and integrity was beyond reproach. His last employment was at Community/Enloe Hospital, where he served diligently for over 30 years. He was also a faithful member of the Chico Eagles Lodge. When Tony retired, he pursued his interest in helping others, gardening, horseshoes, bowling, hard top racing, golfing, and his houseboat on Shasta Lake. Tony was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Fernando Escobar. Tony is survived by his wife, Donna, and son, Ric; sister, Felicia and husband, Ralph Contreras, and their daughter, Mona Bender; brother, John Torres and wife, Willie, and several nieces and nephews. Donna would like to give special thanks to his sister, Felicia for the excellent kind and loving care she gave to her brother in his time of need. The family would also like to thank Dr. Hayward for his knowledge, kindness, compassion, and sincerity in caring for his patients best interest. Thank you also to his staff, the Enloe Infusion Center staff, and the wonderful group of people at Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home Monday, August 2, 2010 at 12 Noon, followed by a memorial luncheon at the Chico Eagles Hall at 20th and Mulberry St. in Chico. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Tony's name, may do so to the Enloe Hospice, or your favorite charity, c/o the Brusie Funeral Home.
