Irene Elizabeth Hodge

Irene Elizabeth Hodge, 94, of Sacramento, CA, passed away on March 15, 2016 in Carmichael, CA. She was born January 26, 1922 in Marion Kentucky and was a resident of the Yuba-Sutter area for over 20 years. Irene moved from Kentucky to Southern California at age 13. Her family later moved to Northern California to settle in the Yuba -Sutter area where she graduated from Marysville High School. She also met and married Walter, the love of her life, of approximately 57 years. She worked for Sprouse Reitz Five and Dime Store, Rexall Drug Store, and McClellan AFB to name a few. She also spent some time at home as a domestic housewife. She volunteered for Senior Gleaners and attended Emmanuel Faith Tabernacle Church. Known to many as Irene, Ma, Grandma, and GG, she leaves us with many good memories of her many talents of quilting, beautiful Christmas stockings, various crafts, and yummy buffalo cookies. She will be missed by all. Irene is survived by her sons, Donald Hodge (Eva) of Sedro Wooley WA, and Wendell Hodge (Judy) of Sacramento, CA; niece Carolyn Hawkins (Bill) of Yuba City, CA; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren' and other great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter (Bud) Hodge of Marysville, CA; son Gary Hodge of Stonyford, CA; parents Harvey Van Hosier and mother Ethel (Momo) McConnel-Van Hosier-Tudor of Marion Kentucky; and two sisters, Lois Terrell of Marysville, CA, and Opel McWhinney of San Diego, CA. The family would like to thank Wilma Sheffield and Olli Gibson for their wonderful support and care they provided GG for 3 1/2 years. Also, thanks to Sutter Health Hospice and "Only Love Elderly Care" for taking such good care of her in her last 3 months. Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Sutter Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 4:00 m - 7:00 pm.
