Carol Ann Thompson
June 24th, 1958 - February 5th, 2016
Carol Ann Thompson, 57, began her eternal life in Heaven on February 5, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 24, 1958 in Ayrshire, Scotland to her parents, long-time Yuba County residents, Edmund and Mary Wicklund. After a decades long battle with addiction, Carol Ann found sobriety as well as her calling in life, in the Sacramento Valley Teen Challenge Program. The faith-based rehabilitation program introduced her to the Lord, taught her to love herself, and showed her how to help others overcome similar struggles. She spent the last 8 years of her life first as a student, then as a Staff Advisor with the Teen Challenge Program. She counseled, ministered to, and oversaw countless women on their path to sobriety, self-respect, and serving our Savior, Jesus Christ. Carol Ann was a true champion for the Sacramento Valley Teen Challenge Program, the Twin Rivers Crisis Clinic in Yuba City, and the Riverside Restoration Center in Linda. Her passion for these programs lives on in the faith of all those whose lives she touched - and that is a great many people. Carol Ann is survived by her daughter Susan (Ray) Shackelford of Linda; son Michael Shires of Oroville; sister Christina (Darin) Ahlers of Sutter; sister-in-law Dena Boyd Wicklund of Sutter; 2 grandchildren, 2 nieces, and 3 nephews. She is predeceased by her parents. A Celebration of Life, officiated by Pastor Joan Smith, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Crossroads Community Church, 445 B Street in Yuba City, CA. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations in Carol Ann's name to Sacramento Valley Teen Challenge, P.O. Box 276737, Sacramento, CA 95827
