Joan Grech

Obituary Joan Olga Grech , born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England passed away on January 26th, 2018 in Carmel, California. One of William Otto and Louisa Highton's eight children. As a child and adolescent she lived through World War II and the England bombings . On July 12 , 1952 she was married to Oswald Gerald Grech (died March 19th 2011) for 58 loving years. While working as a nurse in Windsor, Ontario, Joan and Ozzie brought three children into their family. A decade later Joan and Ozzie decided to immigrate to the United States. Traveling along U.S. Route 66 , Joan and her family would share a memorable summer in their station wagon as the drove to their new home San Diego, California. While raising her three children she decided to pursue an education as a Respiratory Therapist , where she established a long career and gained many friends along the way. Driven by her curiosity of the world and cultures she and her husband traveled to foreign destinations that included Egypt,Mexico,Malta,Spain,Italy, France,Panama,Scotland and Costa Rica. Joan and Ozzie retired to Laguna Woods, California in 1997. Following the passing of her husband, Joan moved to Carmel, California in 2014 to be near her son and grandson. She provided a lifetime of unconditional love to her surviving children, son's David Oswald Grech, Christopher Van Grech, daughter Lydia Theresa Grech, and grandson Ryan Alexander Grech.
