Valeriano Viray
December 24th, 1929 - October 29th, 2007
Valeriano B. Viray, M.D., passed away on Monday, October 29, 2007, after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 24, 1929, in Masantol, Pampanga, Philippines. Valeriano was educated in the Philippines and the United States. He earned his medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in 1956. He finished his internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a residency in General and Vascular Surgery at the VA Hospital in Martinez, California, in affiliaton with UC Davis. He served the Salinas community for 25 years as a surgeon at Natividad Medical Center, Mee Memorial Hospital, and at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad. He was a former Chief of Staff at Alisal Community Hospital and served as a Clinical Professor for the Family Practice Residency Program at Natividad Medical Center. He also served as President of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California. He was an avid musician, playing the trumpet and organ. He loved to work on automobiles and home improvements. Valeriano was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will forever be loved by his family and remembered by his friends and former patients. He is preceeded in death by his son, Joey Viray. He is survived by his loving wife, of 50 years, Erlinda and their seven children; Joy Viray (David deceased) Lugan of Concord, Jean (Matt) Wigle of Houston, Texas, Dr. Val C. Viray, Jr. of Salinas, Jovy (Marissa) Viray of Salinas, Jocelyn (Mars, Jr.) Rocamora of Salinas, Erlinda (Robert) Edwards of Grand Prairie, Texas, Olga Joan (Paul) Duke of Henderson, Nevada, eleven grandchildren; Shawn, Eric, Jenalee, Raymond, Alexis, Priscilla, Cody, Michael, Kainoa, Robert Carl III, and Alison, sisters; Roberta Bustos and Virgilia Yumang, brothers; Nicomedes, Edilberto and Teodoro Viray.

Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
