Resham Singh Bains

Resham Singh Bains passed away peacefully in his longtime home in Yuba City, CA on August 5, 2016, at the age of 96. Resham was a long-time resident of Yuba City and is survived by his 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Born in the village of Nangal located in Punjab, India, on May 5, 1920, Resham originally came to Yuba City from India on a student visa in 1947. He attended and graduated from Yuba College in 1950. From there, Resham took his love of farming to California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and graduated in 1953 with his degree in Soil Science. Thereafter, Resham moved back home to India where he would teach Agriculture at Khalsa High School in Mahil Pur for several years. After eventually moving to England for 2 years, Resham was not satisfied and wanted more for his family. With the memory of his own uncle Dalip Singh Bains (Baba Phalla) originally immigrating to the United States in 1899 and his own father Karm Singh Bains in 1924, Resham used his strong drive and determination to officially move back to Yuba City with his wife (late Gurjit Kaur Bains) and five children (Nakshatar, Tejwant, Parminder, Ravinder, and Gurpreet) in 1963. Resham and his family were one of the original members of the Sikh community to relocate to and begin farming in Yuba City. Resham's true passions and love in life were spending time with his family and farming his peach ranch. Resham was a pillar in the Sikh community of Yuba City and will truly be missed. Funeral services will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel located at 817 Almond St., Yuba City, CA 95991, on Wednesday August 10, 2016, at 11:00A.M. Prayers will follow at the Sikh Temple located on Bogue Road. Kashmir Singh will lead the service.
