Ruth Marion
January 1st, 2001
Ruth V. Marion passed away on Sunday March 10, at the age of 97. She was born on September 16, 1915 in Modoc County to Lewis and Neva Ake. She along with her three brothers and sister lived a pioneer life in a rustic log cabin near Goose Lake. She attended elementary school in Modoc and later moved with her family to Chico where she attended high School. After moving to Chico she met Gerald Marion. They were married on October 30, 1933 in Reno, Nevada and spent the next 74 years together. They had three children, son Gerald, daughter Norma Jean, and son Charles. The family lived in Chico until 1962 and then moved to a ranch in Durham where she lived the remainder of her life. Ruth was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cross stitch, watching baseball, and taking care of stray cats. Her greatest love, however, was her family. Through the years she was a caretaker for several family members as well as helping and caring for her own grandchildren. She (Grandma Car) could be seen at every event or activity they participated in. She continued that tradition by following all her great grandchildren's activities as well. In 2010, she was thrilled to welcome a fifth generation great-great granddaughter. She was blessed again in 2012 with another great-great granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean Medina, her grandchildren George Medina Jr., Christopher Medina, and Annette Medina Marler, great grandchildren, Lindsay Medina Plechaty, Carli Medina, Nick Medina, Katie Medina, Megan Marler, and Ross Marler and her great-great grandaughters, Brinn and Brooke Plechaty. She is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Neva Ake, her sons, Gerald and Charles Marion, her brothers Bud Ake, Lewis Ake, Bob Ake, sister Norma Yates, and her husband Gerald Marion. As per her wishes a private family service will be held.
