Vernon West
March 31st, 1928 - March 22nd, 2012
Vernon G. West, 83 passed away March 22, 2012 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born March 31, 1928 to Henry and Ruchia West in Osage, Arkansas. He attended greenfield Elementary School, King City High School and Hartnell College. Vernon retired from the California Department of Corrections after 22 years of service. He then sold real estate for the next 8 years. He was a resident of Salinas for 59 years. Vernon was a minister with the Pentecostal Church of God. His ministry in the local church where he was a member included teaching, leading the youth, and participated as the associate pastor for four years. He was a member of the board of directors at the Salinas Victory Mission where he ministered every Tuesday night for several years. His ministry outside Monterey County included Yuba City, Fresno, Mariposa, Norwalk, and Arkansas. Vernon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nadine West; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery, his parents, Henry and Ruchia West, his brother, Monroe; his sisters, Inez West, Lydia ayers, and Alice Evel. Visitation will be held at the Healey Mortuary on Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 1 to 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the King City District Cemetery, King City, CA

Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
