Laura Jane Coats passed away peacefully on Friday, November 30, 2018, at age 70. Devoted artist, author, calligrapher, marionnettiste, graphic designer, mother, sister, daughter, and fifth-generation Californian. She remains a true inspiration to all whose lives she touched. The world is so much richer and more beautiful for having had her in it, now and forever. Jane is survived by her son Thomas Betthauser and daughter-in-law Erin Kaczkowski of Sacramento and by her mother, Dorothy Coats, of Yuba City, and was predeceased by her father, Wallace J. Coats, and her step-father and uncle, Robert T. Coats. She is also survived by sisters Barbara Ward of Lafayette and Mary Kashuba of Colfax, brother Jim of Sacramento, step-sisters and cousins Betty Heian and Robin Walther, step-brothers and cousins Robert Coats, Francis Coats, and Tom Coats, and by many additional cousins, nieces, and nephews. Open Service to be held at Sutter Cemetery, 12:45 pm, on Friday, December 14, 2018
