Daniel Warner

DANIEL 0. WARNER 1920-2014 Daniel, age 93, passed away to be with our Lord on June 11, 2014. He was born July 20, 1920 to John and Luella Warner in Centerville, California. He was one of the last pioneers born and raised in Centerville. He attended school in what is now the Old Schoolhouse Museum and he is pictured in many of the photographs displayed there. In 1936, at the age of 16 Dan began working in a local gold mine, and eventually went on to work for a road construction company. On August 21, 1941 he married Verla Sharp and they went onto enjoy almost 73 years of marriage together. He then went on to work for a lumber company in Fort Bragg driving trucks until he entered the US army in 1944 as an infantryman in General Patton's Third Army, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and battled through Germany into Berlin. He continued to serve during the occupation of Germany until his honorable discharge in 1946. Upon his return he and Verla settled in Chico eventually moving to Durham in 1958, where they raised a family. But Dan and Verla didn't stop there; they continued to travel over the years with their friends and family, trailer in tow. They have travelled to Canada, Hawaii, all over the United States, and frequented the California coast, where they would spend time fishing each summer. Dan always loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and enjoyed water skiing. He and Verla were also part of The Ridge Runner Square Dance Club for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his grandson Dan Smith, survived by his wife Verla, two children; Larry Warner and Darla Smith, seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A graveside service, with military honors, will beheld at Glen Oaks Memorial Park. in Chico at 10 am on the 27th. The viewing will be Thursday June 26th 5-8pm at Brusie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to Mid Valley Baptist Church or the Colman Museum in Centerville, in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
