Abraham "Abe" Gruspe
March 6th, 1938 - October 12th, 2012
Abraham "Abe" F. Gruspe, passed away on October 12, 2012 at the age of 74. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Paniqui, Tarlac, Philippines and attended the University of the East, Philippines. He served in the Philippine Army and was married in 1959 to his loving wife, Evangeline "Angie". He immigrated to the U.S. in 1968 and worked hard to bring the rest of his family to the U.S.. He became a resident of Salinas along with his family in 1970. Abraham obtained a starting position at AAFES Post Exchange Fort Ord, CA and worked his way to a managerial position for 25 years. Working at AAFES allowed him to manage AAFES locations at Fort Ord, Clarks Air Force Base and Vandenberg A.F.B. and retired at the age of 55. Abe was a member of the Laoaguenian of Monterey County. Abe enjoyed fishing, traveling, going to casinos, watching football and the Filipino Channel. He will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, laughter and sense of humor. To his children and wife, Abe was loved and admired as a caring, protective father and husband, who they will deeply miss. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evangeline Gruspe of Salinas daughter, Gli Marie VonWinning of Salinas sons, Ariel (Nancy) Gruspe of Los Altos Abraham Gruspe, Jr. of Sacramento grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew, and Megan Gruspe Laurelle, Chelsea, Angelique and Brittney VonWinning great-grandchildren, David, Jr. and Aubrey brother, Dr. Arnold F. (Cindy) Gruspe of West Virginia along with numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents, Vedasto and Juliana Gruspe son, Glenn Michael Gruspe and his sister, Gloria Sudaria. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 2-9pm with a Rosary recital at 6:30pm all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, October 19, 2012 10am at Madonna del Sasso Catholic Church 320 E. Laurel Drive Salinas, CA 93906. Burial to follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St. Salinas, CA 93901.

Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
