Brusie Funeral Home
William Massie
July 9th, 1937 - April 10th, 2015
BILL MASSIE Long time Chico resident William Henry Massie, 77, died peacefully Friday, April 10, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25th at Brusie Funeral Home, 626 Broadway, Chico, CA. Bill was born July 9, 1937, to Elmer and Hester Massie in Greeley, Colorado, and moved to California in 1940. Bill was raised in Palermo, and attended Palermo and Oroville schools. After high school, Bill took a position with the State of California in Sacramento, where he met his future wife of 50+ years, Dorothy Enos; they were married in 1958 and moved to Vallejo. Daughter Jeanne was born in 1959, and son Jeffrey was born in 1967. The family moved to Chico in 1963 when Bill took a position with the State of CA Disability Insurance office. Bill retired in 1998, receiving a Commendation from the State for 42+ years of service. Bill and Dottie were active in the Chico Elks, the Chico Portuguese Holy Ghost Club, were members of the Paradise Moose club, and were leaders for SIRS travel events, which took them traveling to many beautiful U.S. towns and foreign countries. At the end of 2012 Bill was diagnosed with cancer. With the help of his brother, sister-in-law, and daughter, he spent his remaining two years working on his bucket list. He went white water rafting in Costa Rica and zip lining in Mexico. In Florida he tried sky-diving and took a ride on an airboat in the swamps. He went hot air ballooning in Napa, glider riding in Williams, and took a helicopter flight with doors off over the lava fields in Hawaii. There was a cruise through the Panama Canal, a road trip to Yellowstone, and a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. Bill lived life to the fullest up to the end, never complaining. Bill will always be remembered for the softness he held in his heart for family, for the twinkle in his eyes, and for his famous Massie humor. Bill is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Martin (Paul) of Honolulu, his brother James Massie (Laura) of Paradise, his brother-in-law Earl Roider Sr of Stockton, his grandsons Troy Martin and Caleb Hopkins, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and son, Jeff, his brother, Robert Massie, sister, Ruby Roider, grandson Ryan Martin, and his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Compassionate Friends - Honolulu chapter, 1676 Ala Moana Blvd #502, Honolulu, or to Enloe Hospice, Chico, or to a charity of your choice .
