Dr. Katie Whitlock 1970-2015 Katherine Lynne Whitlock, CSU-Chico Music and Theatre associate professor, passed away at her home on December 7. The cause of death is unknown. She was 45. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, "Dr. Katie" held a BFA in stage and arts management from the University of Arizona, an MFA in theatrical design (sound) from the University of Memphis, and a PhD in theatre history, literature, and criticism from The Ohio State University. She taught at each of those institutions and the University of Florida before joining CSU, Chico in fall 2006. She is survived by her mother, Adele H. Bealer (Steve), of Salt Lake City, UT; her aunt, Cindy Haverty, of Collierville, TN; her step-sister, Tracy Bealer of Queens, NY; and countless colleagues and students. A memorial service honoring Dr. Katie will be on Wednesday, December 16, on the CSU campus. A private inurnment service is planned for December 27 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Germantown, TN. Scholarships in Dr. Whitlock's name have been established at CSU-Chico (The Katie Whitlock Memorial Scholarship), at The Ohio State University (The Katie Whitlock Memorial Fellowship for Graduate Student International Travel), and at the University of Memphis (The Katie Whitlock Memorial Scholarship). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her legacy with your donations to one of these scholarships, to the Butte Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home in Chico, CA.
