Larry Wayne Mays
October 22nd, 1946 - January 7th, 2016
Larry Wayne Mays, Sr., our friend and mentor, loving son, cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 69, passed away on January 7, 2016, at Enloe Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends after fighting heart disease for 29 years. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lula, brothers Benny and Rodney, and his oldest son Larry Wayne Mays Jr. He leaves behind his wife Terrie, four children Ronald Mays and Carol Crane of Chico, Kelly Mays of Reno, NV, and Tammy Williams of Arbuckle, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Larry was born October 22, 1946, in Hamilton City to devoted parents Dallas and Lois Mays, where they worked at Mill's Orchard as a ranch hand and cook respectively. Larry and his two brothers were raised in a happy home at Mill's Orchard. In 1972 Larry met and married the love of his life, Terrie, and they shared 44 glorious years together. At the age of sixteen, Larry began work for a contractor building roads in the north state. He also worked as a truck driver from a young age. Finally starting his own grading service in Chico in 1976. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, buying storage units and his beloved family. Larry imparted love, kindness and wisdom to everyone he met. He was the foundation of his family and will be deeply missed. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 14 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brusie Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 15 at Life Church in Chico, 1492 East Ave. at 1:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life. View obituary and send condolences online at BrusieFH.com.
