James "Jim" Carey Mason A graveside service for Jim Mason, 84, of Princeton will be held at 10:00 on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico. Jim passed away on February 29, 2016 in Chico. Jim was born on October 26,1931 in Long Beach, Ca. to Wylie and Genese Mason. He attended schools in Bakersfield until his sophomore year in high school when his family moved to Butte City, Ca. He attended Princeton High School and after graduation, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was assigned at Moffitt Field as an Aviation Machinist for 4 years working on Navy planes and traveling all over Europe. Jim marred Julia Marin and lived in San Diego, Ca. for a few months before Jim's time in the Navy was complete. They then returned to Princeton, Ca. where he went to work for his father-in-law Tony Marin and later was a business partner in farming with John Marin. Jim loved to play softball, golf and sang in a barbershop group. Jim and Julia spent summers in Lake Almanor and winter in Yuma, Arizona. He was a Mason and a Shriner; and was a retired school board member, county school board member, and a retired member of the Codora Fire Dept. Jim loved following his grandkids sporting events from softball, baseball, sprint car racing and motorcross in his back yard. Jim was an avid 49er and Giants fan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Julia Mason, daughters Candi Fleming of Chico, Cari {Garth} Moore of Princeton, Ca. Granchildren Tanner{Lacey} Dillard of Princeton, Renee' {Jimmy} Manhart of Williams, Ca., Ashley {Eric} Rasmussen of Colusa, Ca., Amy Denz of Princeton, Erin {Lee} Heringer of Chico, Ca., Monica {Nate} Michaud of Willows, Ca., Allie Moore of Chico, Ca., Mason Moore of Chico, Ca., and 9 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Brusie Funeral Home. Jim was a very proud Shriner and was very supportive of Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Charitable donations can be made in his name to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
