Dr. Herbert Robinson
February 21st, 1924 - September 28th, 2022
Dr. Herbert Robinson passed away in Yuba City on September 9, 2022 at the age of 98. Born in 1924 in McFadden, Wyoming to Lance and Mary Robinson, he grew up in that area with his brother, Dale. He spent his teen years in the 1930s on their ranch in nearby Rock River. Enlisting in the Navy in 1942, he quickly rose to the rank of Chief Pharmacist Mate and participated in hospital preparations in advance of the June 6, 1944 allied invasion of Normandy. It was in England that he met and married his wife, Vera Martin, who was in the British Army. They had a daughter, Sandra, who traveled to the US with his wife during the latter part of the war. After the war, he transferred to Kawajalein in the Marshall Islands where he established a clinic supporting the Bikini Atoll atom bomb tests. He later attended the University of Wyoming followed by medical school at Northwestern University. Upon graduation in 1954, he re-entered the Navy as a Medical Corps officer, where he completed both his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology. As a medical officer, he served in San Diego, Oakland and Kodiak Island. He and his family settled in Yuba City in 1961, when he joined the Marysville Medical Clinic. He practiced obstetrics and gynecology for nearly 40 years. It's difficult to say with certainty how many lives he touched in his community, but during his retirement years it was a sure thing a former patient would approach him to say hello whenever he was in a restaurant or shop. Herbert was an avid golfer into his late 80s. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and travel, and was a member of the Ben Ali Shrine, which he actively participated in for over 25 years. He is predeceased by his wife, who passed away in 2002, and is survived by his children, Sandra Mathiesen (Viggo) of Sacramento and Scott Robinson (Debi) of Lafayette, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. At his request, no services will be held. The family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
