Roy passed away at home on November 29, 2015, at the age of 98, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief illness. He was born December 30, 1916 in Hanover, NM. He was the first child to survive of five children born to Manuel and Juana (Lara) Martinez.He married Piedad Quintana on July 13, 1940 in Duncan, AZ. He worked as a farmer and in the copper mines at Morenci, Arizona. Together, they had three daughters before moving to Colusa, CA, in the mid 1940's. There, he worked on a large farm and had a fourth daughter. In the early 1960's, the family moved to Marysville, CA, where he worked for the Valley Meat. Later, they moved to Yuba City where he worked for Palace Meat until age 65 when he retired.In 2006, he moved to Ohio to be with his daughter Mary. While living there, he enjoyed traveling, visiting national landmarks as well as festivals, amusement parks and state fairs. During this time, he managed to travel to all the states and Washington, DC, with exception of Hawaii, Alaska and Washington. No matter where Roy was, at home or in his travels, he radiated a kind, gentle energy that drew people to him. Throughout Roy's life, he remained religious and prayed faithfully every night.He is survived by his daughters Mary (Larry) Holbrook, Rosa (Jose Quintana) Brito, Hilda Sanchez, and Herlinda (Bill) Brown; his sisters Mary Madrigal, Jenny (Emilio) Mendoza, June Neely, and brother Alvin (Betty) Elmer. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.Preceded in death by his wife Piedad (Quintana) Martinez, three stepbrothers, two stepsisters, sisters Molly Hernandez, Maggie Roybal and Stella Baray; brothers Wilford Elmer, Clyde Elmer, son-in-law Lupe Sanchez and great-great-granddaughter Ellie Sanchez.Visitation will be Thursday, December 10, 2015, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Services will be conducted at the chapel on Friday, December 11, 2015, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Sierra View Memorial Park. Arrangement under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
