James Patton

Services for James Patton 87 of Chico will be held in Chico at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the First Christian Church. 295 East Washington Ave. James passed away on April 17, 2017 surrounded by family and friends after a battle with cancer. He was born on May 27, 1929 in Salesville, Texas to Coy and Bessie Patton. James received a B.S. Degree in Forestry at Humboldt State University and a Master's in Education Administration at Western State Colorado University. James served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He met Dolores Conta while he was still in the Navy. Dolores and Jim were married for 53 years until her passing in 2009. He worked for the Park Service, a Science Teacher in Butte Valley, Ca., then as a Principal in Needles, Ca. and finally a Superintendent in Happy Camp, Ca. James was an active member in the V.F.W, American Legion and Grange while he lived in Happy Camp. After they retired Dolores and Jim decided to move to Chico, Ca. He loved the outdoors and traveling. He also enjoyed hunting, hiking, and taking trips to visit family and friends .Even after his wife passed away, he took a trip with family members to Italy to visit his wife's family. After being diagnosed with cancer, he went on several trips to visit family and places he wanted to see, From Sturgeon fishing in the Columbia River to Las Vegas to play video poker and eat at many great restaurants with his family. James Is survived by his daughter Laura Danielsen and son in law Tim, son Robert Patton and daughter in law Jennifer and brother John Mayo of Mineral wells, Texas. He was the oldest of his brothers who preceded Him in death Stokes Patton, Carlton Patton and Bobby Patton.
