Henry J. Volk

Henry J. Volk passed away September 24, 2012 at th age of 89. He was born May 1, 1923 to Joseph and Elizabeth (Kramer) Volk in Strasburg, North Dakota. Henry served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in South Dakota. On June 16, 1948, he married Phyllis Wald in Napoleon, N.D. They workded the family farm where he grew up until 1950 when they moved to Portland. In 1975, they moved to Canby. He retired in February 1987 after working 36 years for the Greyhound bus lines as a bookkeeper and other jobs. Henry was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the fraternal Order of Eagles 3256. He enjoyed reading, music, dancing and travel. Henry is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter, Henrietta Orr of Canby; sons, Gary of West Linn and Stan of Gresham; sisters, Anna Burgad, of Bismark, N.D., Helen Johns of Eugene and Esther Loeb of Redding, California; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His brother, Wendelin, and sisters Martina and Beth Bertha preceded him in death. There will be a public viewing for last respects on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Canby Funeral Chapel between 5 and 8 PM. (Located at 160 S. Grant St., Canby, OR 97013) There will be a Funeral Mass for Henry on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Canby, OR. Officiating will be Fr. John Waldron and Fr. Peter Sirianni. Luncheon will be served following the Mass. Interment will be @ St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery at 99E and New Era following the Mass and Luncheon.
