Afton Schukei
December 24th, 1921 - April 25th, 2017
AFTON MARIE DEE SCHUKEI With sadness we announce the death of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Afton Marie "Dee" (Darley) Schukei. Dee passed away on April 25, 2017, at the remarkable age of 95. She was born on December 24, 1921, in Rexburg, ID, the oldest of six children of William Frederick Darley and Laura Jeannette (Anthony) Darley. After graduating from high school and attending college for three years, Dee entered the United States Air Force on June 9, 1944. She was a Corporal in the 1455th Army Air Force Unit and received Good Conduct, American Campaign, and World War II Victory medals. She was honorably discharged on November 26, 1945. Soon after, on June 1, 1947, Dee married Gerhardt (Garry) Gustav Schukei in Redding, and they began the first of their 68 years together. They moved to Chico, raised two sons, and faithfully attended Re-deemer Lutheran Church. Dee and Garry loved to camp and fish, and they would often take their motorhome to their favorite spots in CA and OR to camp and fish with family and friends. Dee is now reunited with her husband Garry, and they will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary together in Heaven. She is also reunited with her parents, brother Jack, sister Jeanne, infant daughter Jane Ann, and cherished friends. She is survived by her two sons, Donald Schukei of Phoenix, AZ, and Glenn (Sandy) Schukei of Chico, six grandchildren (Kari, Chris, Justin, Jill, Kaylee, and Kyle), four great-grandchildren (Alexander, Brianna, Rose Afton, and Keira), one great-grandchild on the way, and siblings Bill of Cedar City, UT, Faye Wasson of Spanish Fork, UT, and Kay Ochs of Calimesa. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 2, from 5:00-8:00pm at Brusie Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10:00am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, followed by a graveside service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
