William "Bill" Hunter

William L 'Bill' Hunter of Durham, California passed away April 30, 2017 at Windsor Care Center of Sacramento at the age of 96. Bill was born Sept 2, 1920 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to William & Christie Hunter. Bill married Audrey Inman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 25, 1938, they celebrated 67 years of marriage until Audrey passed in January 2005. Bill served in the Navy from 1944-1946 during WWII. After his military service he worked as a welder at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards, went into farming in the Gerber area, moved to Durham where he owned and operated a Chevron gas station for more than 20 years. During that time he also went into walnut farming for about 45 years then went into almond farming. Bill was a life member of the VFW and life member of the American Legion. Bill and Audrey enjoyed traveling in their 5th wheel for many years camping and fishing along the Coast and many of the local Lakes. Bill is survived by his twin sons, Gary(Kathy) of Durham, CA and Jerry(Karen) of Marysville. There are 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wed May 10, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Brusie Funeral Home. Burial will be Thursday May 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, In lieu of flowers contributions may be may to the Ahlzeimers Association.
