Howard Anthony Spalding, born February 20, 1917 in Hull, Illinois passed away peacefully October 26, 2015 in Yuba City, CA at the age of 98. Howard (also known as Tony to friends) was raised on a farm and enjoyed his childhood. He said he was "Huck Finn", always barefoot and never without his slingshot, fishing pole and BB gun. At 25 he married the love of his life Starr and moved to California. He said those were the two best decisions of his life. From digging ditches to CEO, Howard was the essence of the self-made man. Howard was part owner, President and CEO of Inland Tractor Company for many years before retiring at 62. Howard and Starr then traveled the world, China twice, the Holy Land twice, Hawaii numerous times and 50 cruises. Howard and Starr enjoyed their cabin at Incline, Nevada for many years and entertained many friends and family there. Some of their closest friends were the monthly Potluck group that stayed together 50+ years enjoying friendship, dinner and bridge. These were their oldest and closest friends. Howard was known for his generosity, his artwork, his love of nature, gardening, photography, playing gin rummy, dominos, shooting craps and enjoying life to the fullest. Howard is survived by his daughters Robin Spalding Vaccaro and Janet Spalding along with his grandchildren Sara Ochipinti and Brandon Vaccaro. He was preceded in death by his wife Starr of 70 years, his parents and brothers and sister. The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to Dr. Richard Brouette and the staff at The Gardens who lovingly cared for Howard in the last years of his life. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The American Heart Association , MS Foundation or JDRF Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10 am at Sutter Cemetery.
