Anna Sumiye Kinoshita

Anna Sumiye Kinoshita, 87 years of age, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, in her home she loved, on Saturday evening, January 14, 2023. Born October 30, 1935, in Marysville, California, to her parents, Kikuno and Hachiro Ishimoto. Anna's family resided in Marysville, where she attended Mary Covillaud Elementary School and Marysville High School. As World War II broke out the United States Government unlawfully removed Anna and her family, along with all who were from Japanese ancestry from there homes and detained them in internment camps for duration of the war. After the war they returned to Marysville to re-establish their family and to rebuild their lives. A few short years later Anna would meet Richard Kinoshita, a returning war hero and veteran of WWII , serving with the 442nd Infantry Regiment 100th Battalion. They were married November 22, 1954. Anna and Richard settled down in Yuba City where they built their family and lived happily together for 47 years. Her beloved husband Richard passed away in 2001. In her early years Anna worked from her home as she and her husband raised their three children together. Anna then began a long and fulfilling career working at Park Avenue School as a cafeteria worker. She loved her job, her coworkers and the children she served. After 33 years with Yuba City Unified School District she happily retired. Several years passed when Anna would find love again with her best friend and companion Jim Tanimoto. They enjoyed gardening, long drives and conversation with each other. They laughed, they cried and shared life with one another. Most of all, they loved to watch the SF Giants games together. They were inseparable. Jim became an important part of Anna's family. He is loved, will always be loved, and appreciated. Anna became part of Jim's beautiful family as well. She loved Jim's children and his entire family with all her heart. Anna was a lifetime member of the Marysville Buddhist Church. She enjoyed cooking and serving with her friends and family at all church functions. She found great joy, fulfillment and purpose in service to her church and our community. For several years she also attended Sutter Community Church with her sister Kikue. Anna was loved and respected by all her friends in her church communities. Anna was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Kikuno and Hachiro; her husband, Richard; her brother, George; and sisters, Lillian, Kikue and Mary. She is survived by her two sisters, Amy Iwamura and Alice Wada. She is also survived by her three children, Shelley Glines (Bruce), Rick Kinoshita (Beth) and Nancy Nakagawa (Gordon); along with all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her many nieces, and nephews, whom she loved very much. Her Memorial Service will be held at the Marysville Buddhist Church, 125 B Street, in Marysville on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00AM.
