On Nov. 9, 2017, Margaret "Peggy" Wright passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was 86. She is survived by her husband of 62 yrs, Richard Wright, her sister, Phyllis Saccani, daughter Adrian, son Matthew, his wife Paula, their sons Christopher and Aden/Patrick, his wife Sammy and mom's Great Granddaughter Paige. Peggy was born in Long Beach, CA Aug. 23, 1931. Soon after, her family moved to Sonoma Co. where her father often worked three jobs to keep them all afloat during the depression. Peggy attended HS in Petaluma. From there she went to the University of Santa Barbara, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Education. Her first teaching job was in Auburn, CA. She was set up on a blind date with an uncle of one of her students, who just happened to turn out to be Richard Wright. They married July 9, 1955. Peggy continued to teach at Browns Valley and later Marysville. In 1961, they moved their young family to Chico. Peggy's career in education spanned decades. She specialized in reading. At Golden Feather Union SD, she became their reading specialist. She also joined the California Reading Association. While still working for GFUSD, she served as a grant compliance representative, mentor teacher, advocate for children with learning disabilities. She spoke at their statewide meetings and presented new programs. Peggy was an influential, dedicated educator. Upon retiring from GFUSD, she was hired to supervise student teachers. Later, she became a volunteer and board member of the Stansbury House Association. Peggy's other passion was travel. Starting as a child, her family took many road trips, seeing nearly all of the US. She continued that tradition with her own family. For 13 yrs she and Richard hauled their pickup/camper and boat to Vancouver Island to fish for salmon. When the grandsons were old enough, Peggy and Richard took them and their parents on trips to Hawai'i and Mexico. They both Joined SIRS, (Seniors in Retirement) and continued to travel on their chartered bus trips long and short. Peggy also travelled on her own to Australia for 6 weeks in the late 70's. More recently, she went with a group to see the Passion Play in Germany, seeing much of Europe in the process. Peggy's cognitive abilities began to diminish in her late 70's. She was diagnosed with dementia, which lead to her death. In lieu of flowers, Peggy's family invites you to donate in her name to stansburyhome.org or your favorite charity in her name. Please feel free to leave remembrances at www.brusiefh.com.
