Herbert Puckett
January 23rd, 1928 - September 8th, 2023
Herbert Ramie Puckett born January 23, 1928 in Vacaville, California to Herbert and Vera Puckett passed away in Yuba City, California September 8, 2023. Herb was soon followed by two sisters, Alice Lucille and Ann Lynette. He grew up in Yolo County and attended Yolo County schools graduating from Woodland High School in 1946. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he was a radio operator serving stateside. He married Agnes Irene Webb on April 2, 1957 and they were married 48 years until her passing in 2005. After moving to Yuba City, Herb and Agnes raised three children and were actively involved in their activities. Herb could be found on the Little League field, campouts with the Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls and was a volunteer at Camp Me Wa Hi where he helped to maintain and repair the electrical wiring. Herb was also an active member of the Yuba-Sutter Amateur Radio Club. He volunteered for Bike Around the Buttes, the Bok Kai Parade and served as an Emergency communication station in both the 1986 and 1997 floods locally. Herb was a retired Cal Trans employee who was instrumental in automating signal lights using computer software that he wrote. Many of the signals in District 3 still use software that he developed 34 years after his retirement. Herb was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Vera Puckett, his sisters Ann Lynette Puckett and Alice Lucille Webb and son-in-law Geoff Kauffman. Herb is survived by daughter Linda Perkins (Phillip), son Lane Puckett (Catherine) and daughter Lori Kauffman. Herb is also survived by his grandchildren, Charles, Michael, Rachelle, David, Patricia and Megan as well as nieces and nephews. Herb's family is grateful for the loving care that he received from the staff of The Courtyard Assisted Living Facility as well as the care he received from Dr. Rupinder Brar, Dr. Raghavender Boothpur, and Josh Opperman FNP as well as their staff members. Remembrances may be made to the Yuba-Sutter Amateur Radio's Repeater fund, Beale Air Force Base's Operation Warm Heart or the Agnes Puckett Memorial Fund for the Yuba Sutter Counties 4-H Clubs. Interment will be at Mary's Cemetery and Chapel, 12020 County Road 98, Woodland, California. A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Cornerstone Church, 700 Washington Avenue in Yuba City, California with Pastor Jim Anderson presiding at 11 am. In honor of Herb's love of plaid please wear plaid if you wish.
