Virginia Anderson
October 12th, 1926 - January 7th, 2011
Obituary Virginia "Ginger" Anderson, of Fort Collins, Colorado and formerly of Arlington, Massachusetts, passed peacefully on January 7, 2011. She was born on October 12, 1926 at the "Sunnyside Hospital" in Somerville, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Estelle Marie and John W. Nelson. She was the second oldest of three siblings. Ginger graduated from Arlington High School and spent summers in Damariscotta and Biddeford, Maine. She married George Howard in 1949 whom she met while they worked at the Christian Science Monitor. She returned to college at the age of fifty-two after raising five children. She worked at the Fernald State School Developmental Center, first as a legal secretary then as a fund raiser in the recreation department for over fifteen years. Ginger loved gardening, dancing, playing the piano, laughing and loving and teaching her five children to do the same. She is survived by her daughter Carol Anderson of Fort Collins, daughter Janet Anderson of Arlington, Massachusetts, daughter Holly Gwin of Somerville, Massachusetts, daughter in law Marissa Anderson of Orlando, Florida, grandchildren Keith Anderson of Brockton, MA, Eric Cotter of Belmont, MA, Cory Cotter of Arlington, MA, Sara Gwin of Boston, MA, Cheri Gwin of Woburn, MA and great-grandchildren Kristopher Gwin of Boston, MA and Sophia Gwin of Woburn , MA. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Estelle Nelson, brother Norman Nelson, brother John Nelson, sister Lois Kenyon, son David Anderson, son Robert Anderson and long time friend Ruth Saunders. Ginger had a warm and generous spirit, a loving heart and an easy smile that lit up her bright blue eyes. She will be deeply missed by the friends and family who will always love her. She would like to be remembered the way she lived; she was good. Cremation has taken place and a memorial in Fort Collins and services and interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington, MA will be at a later date.
