Pamela Jean Oates
August 8th, 1949 - July 2nd, 2019
Born in Chico, Calif. on August 8, 1949 and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 2, 2019 at the age of 69 at her home in Chico, CA. As a former military dependent Pamela moved to many places as a child. In 1990 Pamela moved back to Chico where she taught Art Appreciation at Butte Community College from 1990-1999. She also was an Instructor in painting at the Chico Art Center from 1994-1995. Pam also studied Law at the University of San Diego, and worked as a paralegal for some time in 1976. Pam received her B.A. from California College of Arts and Crafts in 1971 and received an M.A. in painting from California State University at Chico in 1973. Pamela was a well-known artist in the Chico community and had many art exhibits at Butte Community College and the Chico Art Center from 1990-2002. She had a lifelong love of landscape, the desert- particularly, Joshua Tree National Park, in California, and Monument Valley in Arizona. One of Pam's most favorite of the places she lived and worked was the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. When Pam was not doing some kind of art, she loved working her cutting horse, whose name was 'Paint'. Pamela was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Margaret (Peg) Oates. She is survived by her brother Gregory and wife Dona and her nephew Matthew Oates and wife Julie and their children Keegan and Aiden, and niece Elizabeth Oates. She also has many cousins. There will be a memorial service at Bidwell Presbyterian church in Chico on Saturday Aug. 3rd at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com.
