On September 16, 2022, early in the morning, Laura Elena Salazar passed away in San Francisco, CA, surrounded by her loved ones who gathered to support her in her last moments. She passed at the young age of 60. Laura was born on July 9, 1962 in Jerez, Zacatecas Mexico to Martin and Victoria Berumen. Laura had a passion for bringing people together with her food. Everyone knew to come by whenever she made any traditional Mexican dish, she always said her secret ingredient was that it was made with love. When Laura first came to America she worked at a restaurant in Los Angeles, where she met her coworker, who then became her soulmate, Raul Salazar. After getting married, Laura and Raul bought the restaurant where they first met, from there they served the locals their fine Mexican cuisine. Soon after they decided to sell the restaurant and move to Seaside, Monterey County, CA, there she decided to continue her education at Hartnell, where she earned her Associate degree in early childhood development. She focused on her passion for teaching young kids in her last 20 years. Another of Laura’s passions was traveling out of the country with her beloved husband, throughout their years of marriage to places like Europe, Canada, and all over the United States, but her favorite place to travel was always Mexico. One of the most important passions of Laura’s was the love that she held for her grandchildren. Her smile would light up the room whenever she was with them and she would spoil them to no end. Laura was preceded in death by her parents. Laura was survived by her husband, Raul Salazar, her children, Raul Salazar Jr, Diana Salazar, and Hector Salazar, her grandchildren, Ariana Renee Salazar, Adabella Elena Salazar, Jaiden Leonidas Navarro, Lucian Jasiah Navarro, and Hector Mateo Salazar (aka El Duke) as well as her siblings, Armando, Uriel, Jesus, Hector Hugo, Geradro, Victoria, and Araceli Berumen. Friends are invited to Healey Mortuary, located at 405 North Sanborn Road, Salinas for visitation on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 1pm-5pm with recitation of the Rosary at 4:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, September 26, 2022 at 10:00am at Cristo Rey Iglesia Catolica, 240 Calle Cebu, Salinas, with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas. Laura’s family has asked for donations to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and/or Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Dept. 880505, PO Box 29650, Phoenix, AZ 85038-9650.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
