Steven John Garcia passed away in Sacramento February 12, 2024. He is survived by his mother and stepdad, Gail and Larry Shaw and his father, John Garcia, brothers, Ken (Sonya), Doug and Kevin (Christy), numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also surviving is Dorothy “Dee” Pulhumas, his life partner of 23 years. Steve was born in Hollister and attended grammar school there before the family moved to Salinas where he attended El Sausal Jr. High and North Salinas High School graduating in 1981. Throughout elementary grades he was in the “Mentally Gifted Minor” program. He loved fishing and being outdoors. His favorite sports were tennis, track, basketball, and cross country. After high school, he worked at various restaurants in Monterey, Carmel Valley and Salinas both as a cook and a server. Steve moved to Fresno to attend Fresno City College and graduated with an AA in 1990. His passion was to teach math and science and coach. In his spare time, he coached a youth basketball team. He moved to Sacramento and enrolled in Sacramento State College to pursue his teaching credential. That’s where he met “Dee” and together they operated a landscaping business. Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 11 AM, Friday, April 26 in Salinas at Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Road. Luncheon to follow at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, 475 San Juan Grade Road, Salinas
