Teodorico Ballesteros Quidem
October 28th, 1940 - January 16th, 2018
Teodorico Ballesteros Quidem, Jr. (Ted/Jun), age 77, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2018 in San Diego, CA. Born to Teodorico Sr. and Maximina on October 28, 1940 in Asingan, Pangasinan, Philippines, Ted wanted more from life than working the fields, and so he enlisted in the Navy in 1968. The Navy opened up a whole new world for Ted, and for 25 years he gratefully gave his life in service to a nation that had opened so many doors for him. The Navy gave him so many opportunities to experience life in the United States, further his education, see the world, and even have a family. While stationed in Guam on board the USS Proteus (AS-19), he met his future wife, Adinda, who also was born in the same town in the Philippines. They were marred and had three sons, Theodore Mac (also in the Navy), Mark, and Alvin. His career in the Navy took him to both coasts in the United States and overseas. His service included time in Guam, Norfolk, Fallon, Orlando, Great Lakes, Long Beach, and San Diego, and he served during the Vietnam War and the first Gulf War. He served on various ships ranging from tenders to destroyers and frigates. While a Recruit Company Commander in Great Lakes, he took pride in earning all possible awards for his companies, to include the Big “E”. His career culminated in being named Command Senior Chief onboard USS Rentz (FFG-46) stationed in Long Beach, CA. He retired in 1993 the Navy as an Electrician’s Mate Senior Chief Petty Officer. Ted spent his retired years with his wife Adinda and welcomed the further addition to the family of his daughter-in-law, Mimsy, and the arrival of 3 grandchildren, Sophia, Michael Gabriel, and Raphael James. He also became more involved in serving in church ministries, volunteering as a Eucharistic minister, a lector, and joining the Knights of Columbus. Ted is survived by his wife of 42 years, Adinda; children Theodore Mac, Mark, Alvin; grandchildren Sophia, Michael Gabriel, and Raphael James; sisters Loreta, Cora, and Carmen, and brother Warlito Sr as well as a loving circle of relatives and friends. Catholic funeral services for Teodorico B. Quidem, Jr. will be at Murphy Canyon Chapel on January 31, 2018, and he will be laid to rest on February 1, 2018 at Miramar National Cemetery with full military honors.
